In light of recent events, it’s interesting to look back at a feature I did on Oscar Pistorius in 2008. I interviewed him twice on the night he won his third Paralympic gold medal – once immediately after he crossed the finish line, then again an hour or two later after he had got his breath back.
In some ways, this was his peak. Running at the London Olympics was perhaps more impressive, but the warning signs had come as early as 2009 (arrested domestic abuse, charges later dropped).
Call it the curse of Nike (Lance, Tiger, Marion etc), but unfortunately, whenever someone or something seems too good to be true, it usually is.
